Ron Short spent three years assembling a two-disc set of coal mining songs, Music of Coal. To support the project he wanted a band that could play songs from the CD, and he asked us to help him out. It was a pleasure to learn those songs, and since summer 2007 we have performed as a band fourteen times, with at least a few more dates to go.
Last month when we were in Wise, Virginia to play at the Mountain Rose Winery the producer of the Music of Coal CD, Paul Kuczko, arranged to have some publicity photos taken. I’ve only managed to get one of them so far, but it looks pretty good. The young girl standing in front of Ron is Molly Slemp, who sang a song on the CD and has been with us for most of our performances.
