Google Reader now watches websites for changes

There are a number of websites I check periodically to see if new information has been added. If they provided an RSS feed of changes, I would just set Google Reader to watch the feed for me, but like many websites there is no feed.

Well, Google Reader just added a feature where, if the site you try to subscribe to does not provide a feed, it will offer to watch the site for you and automatically generate a “feed” of changes to the site.

It’s still being perfected, and it sometimes takes a while for Google Reader to notice a change and pass it on to you, but it really does work. I’ve set it to check a couple of sites so I could stop watching them manually, and it has notified me when changes happen.
